Describe the target audience for your icon design

Christian market

What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your icon design?

The main thing I'd like to communicate is that the icon was done professionally.

Beyond that - you may feel free to incorporate a cross or book in the imagery.

The app is a store for Christian devotionals. The cross is associated with Christianity as a symbol. It's not required to use it - but you may. Also, devotionals are daily readings. The icon can portray a book so that the user understands that the app has reading content. Also - not required.

The current icon is simply a cross floating over a field - it's a good icon but I want to consider fresh ideas as well.

How many different icons do you need designed?

I need one icon designed

Do you have specific size requirements for the icons?

1024 x 1024 png

What icon design styles do you like?

http://spyrestudios.com/40-stunning-ios-app-ico...

If you look at this, the first icon used a border - not a requirement, but I like it.
If you look at the old book Icon, it's not bad either, giving the 3d effect of a book.
The iOS camer printer gives the impression that hte picture is going to extend from the icon - fun.

What colors do you want to see in your icon design?

I do not have specific requirements for this, the previous icon featured a lot of sun rays and gold cross, but you do not have to follow that formula. I would caution that I don't like dark designs.

What colors do you NOT want to see in your icon design?

Don't make it heavy with dark colors - but I am just answering this question, I don't really think any color needs to be prohibited, just don't make the overall design too dark, I prefer lighter designs.

What adjectives should best describe your icon design?

elegant, respectful, devout, christian

Do you have additional requirements or links you'd like to share?

I do not, thanks

Brief updates

Artists - I neglected to tell you one thing that may or may not factor into your design - but devotionals, unlike regular books are often scheduled.

So for example a Lent devotional occurs during Lent. An Advent one - during Christmas season. Sometimes churches purchase one and a whole group does the devotional during the same period of time.

So - the app will have calendaring functions and - if you want to incorporate some kind of indication of days going buy, or a schedule, or a calendar - something to think about - not an absolute requirement.

Artists - please be aware that I've concluded that I will not accept icons that appear to be the bible.

The icon of the bible is not representative of the content of this app - which is devotionals and not the bible. Devotionals do study the bible, but it's not the bible, literally.

Also, I want to say that I may consider a highly religious icon - but, it would be better if the icon appeal to both people that are religious and those that are 'spiritual'. Those that identify with spiritual are not necessarily attracted to traditional religious imagery.

This icon looks kind of cool:

I don't need that particular bird - but one could do up an icon with the christian fish:

But look, now I'm being too suggestive probably - I'll consider a wide range of creative ideas! thanks

I've decided to make this simple - I am going with a silhoutte design.

Thank you for all the entries but at this time it should be a silhouette.

http://myoneword.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/03...

Please look at this as an example and note the following things about it:

Color scheme LIGHT. I just won't pick a dark entry.
Shadows - that gives the cut of the bird the appearance of depth. I want shadows.
The bird has an eyeball. I'm not saying everything needs an eyeball, but what I mean is don't cut the detail to save time. If your silhouette has no detail added back, its too simple for my needs.

The overall icon is not flat, look at the details around the edges.

I want the icon to look very clean and light - but I do not want it to be overally basic or simple. I like shadows and appearance of depth, and things of that nature.

Thanks.
