Creative brief

The buyer added updates to the brief. Read them.

What do you do?

Vehrify is a fresh approach to commercial telephone ordering of auto parts using mobile devices and web technology. It enables mechanics to scan and transmit vehicle information to parts counter staff, and to receive an active view of order information and relevant promotions. This speeds up the ordering process while visual feedback reduces errors and captures the mechanic’s attention to facilitate suggestive selling.

Business Name

Vehrity Inc.

What is your industry?

Software and InfoTech

Describe the target audience for your icon design

Professional automotive service technicians, in other words, mechanics. Typically male, blue-collar, high school or trade school education. Ages 18-65.

What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your icon design?

1. Our app improves results for our customers through visual feedback (symbolically, an eye)
2. Association with Vehrity, Inc. (v-shape) (Yes, the company and the app are spelled differently)
3. Speed/accuracy

How many different icons do you need designed?

One

Do you have specific size requirements for the icons?

Would like to use as app icon (iOS retina spec) and favicon; vector-based

What icon design styles do you like?

As a point of reference, here's our company logo on our website:
http://vehrity.com/wp1/wp-content/uploads/2012/...
(note, the background V is Presley Press Extra Bold; the foreground is Bank Gothic)

Interested in Web 2.0 style for the app icon.

What colors do you want to see in your icon design?

Primarily red (R171, G5, B52) and white

What colors do you NOT want to see in your icon design?

Planning on just the two colors above (with shading).

What adjectives should best describe your icon design?

Clean, strong, masculine. Mechanical?

Do you have additional requirements or links you'd like to share?

Here's my initial concept (riffs and alternatives encouraged!): Imagine a 3-D looking red glossy chiclet. Emboss a horizontal football shape (representing an eye) into the chiclet. Make a round dome in the floor of the football representing the iris of the eye, and map a white triangular shape (representing the V in Vehrify, perhaps italic to represent speed) onto the surface of the dome (or floating above it), maybe with the bottom point of the triangle aligned with the center of the dome.

Brief updates

I added a sample logo called EyeNet to the project. The thing I like about this logo is that the eye shape is 1) masculine, 2) intense and 3) suggests motion. At the same time, the logo is relatively simple and the eye is more "suggested" than fully drawn. Without copying this design, something similar would be interesting, especially if it looked more 3D and if Vehrity's V were incorporated in the middle circle/sphere.
