Prince William Station is currently being planned as a transit-oriented, smart growth, LEED certified mixed-use development opportunity on 415 acres of land in Gainesville, Virginia. This property has been selected as the preferred future location for Virginia Rail Express (VRE) to locate a new rail station, that will connect the site to the nations capital, Washington DC. Based on this future expansion of the VRE, the Prince William Board of Supervisors initiated a Comprehensive Plan Amendment that would allow for residential, retail, office and other employment related uses on the site. The proposed Prince William Station project will change the predominant land use from the existing polluted heavy industrial-oriented uses to a green smart growth planned mix of high-quality office/employment, retail and residential uses. The proposed project will consist of 4,750,000 square feet of office/employment and retail commercial uses, a 600 room hotel with conference facilities and 2,000 or more residential units.
