I prefer image + text for a logo. My favorite logos are GitHub (http://github.com/), Twilio (http://twilio.com/), 37signals (http://37signals.com/) and Stripe (http://stripe.com/).
I prefer a simple logo with a icon rather than a complicated logo.

If the icon (or a image) can be used for favicon or a squared web site symbol like twilio's logo, it's better.
