Creative brief

The buyer added updates to the brief. Read them.

Business Name

Catchphrase Communications Inc.

What do you do?

We are a small communications/public relations consulting firm looking for a exceptional logo design. We are writers at heart, but we are also strategic thinkers that like to see the big picture before drilling down into the details. We offer guidance, support and advice to small businesses that may not realize they need someone to handle their communication needs. Our services include strategy, media relations, speech writing, advocacy, issues management, reputational management, event planning, public speaking, project communications, and campaigns.

What is the exact name you would like in your logo?

Catchphrase Communications (with more emphasis on Catchphrase)

You'll receive designs for biz cards, letterhead and envelopes.

biz cards, letterhead and envelopes please. These need to be formatted so that we can email them via a MacBook Air computer, so they need to be compatible with Office products for Mac (i.e. Word, PowerPoint etc.) as well as, be able to print physical materials (i.e. notepads, envelopes and biz cards).

What is your industry?

Other

Describe the target audience for your logo and stationery

Our target audience is primarily small to mid-size oil and gas companies. These companies do not have an in-house communications department and would be looking to contract with us. We also will be targeting associations, government affiliations etc.

What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your logo and stationery?

Experienced, Honest and Dependable

What logo and stationery styles do you like (text only, image only, text and image, etc.)?

I like image plus text, but I'm open to image only, if it makes sense. I like rounded corners, clean lines, and professional-looking.

What colors do you want to see in your logo and stationery?

I like eggplant purple, various shades of blue, some greys, raspberry red (i.e. blue/red), some shades of green.

What colors do you NOT want to see in your logo and stationery?

I don't like gloomy colours (i.e. greys, blacks etc.). I don't like fluorescent colours. I don't like mustard yellows and oranges.

What adjectives should best describe your logo and stationery?

Creative, clean, professional and fun. I don't want it to be too complicated or intricate and there needs to be a balance between professional and fun. I don't want it to look like a logo for a daycare.

Where will your logo be used (print, website, etc.)?

Print and website

Do you have additional info or links you want to share?

We have a temporary website (www.catchphrase.ca) to give you some kind of idea as to what we do and the clean look/feel. However, this is just a temporary website until we get the new logo and then it will be re-designed. Take a look at the website, but don't base your designs entirely on that. I'm looking for something new and fresh.

Something to keep in mind when submitting entries....our company is a public relations/ communications company, so it would be nice to see some concepts that conveyed two-way communications. What I mean by this is.... our company offers good advice to our clients, which sends information out, but we also listen to our clients too. Hence, two-way communication.

Also, I like the talking bubble concept but it is hard to come up with something original, I would think....

I haven't seen a lot of concepts yet using navy blue....

And, lastly, I'm really looking for something that would be memorable....which I think means simple...think of the Nike logo or the Apple logo....

Just a few thoughts to keep in mind...

I'd like to see some entries that use the font from my website (www.catchphrase.ca) or a traditional typewriter font....

Also, perhaps incorporating a journalist/media concept while also conveying two-way communication, as described in my earlier brief?

Just some thoughts....thanks for your effort. I appreciate it.

We're extending this project for more revisions and new entries. Thank you!

Hi all,

Thanks so much for all your entries....I removed some entries from the gallery today because they were slight variations from other logos and I wanted to clearly see what options I have.

However, I've extended this project until THIS Friday May 23rd. The reason being is that I received some last minute ones right before it closed today. But, I want to wrap this up on Friday (or even before then?) so please submit some more entries that are different from what has already been submitted. Play with fonts and colours, but try to follow the criteria in my brief. I think there are more fun fonts to play with too. In some circumstances, all lower case might work too....

Speaking of colours, I've received a lot of navy and grey, which is nice but kind of boring. The great thing about navy is that it goes with so many different colours, so be creative.

Thanks again and I'm looking forward to seeing some really cool concepts over the next four days....

Thank you to all the creatives who submitted entries for my logo. It was a tough decision and I really appreciated all the hard work from all the creatives. In the end, I chose a design that I really like and I hope will stand the test of time.

Thank you again.
