"The Wonder Project's" (w.t.) mission is to bring arts education to at-risk youth in major U.S cities (and hopefully, some day, int'l cities). My goal for the program is to open multi-million dollar arts studios in underserved communities and charter schools serving the mission. I am in the process of attaching big names to the project to solicit venture capital and grant funding to take it to the next level. I want to see band programs, music recording studios, filmmaking, painting, sculpture, etc. in inner city schools! So the name needs to be able to represent outreach, independent studios, and schools.
Right now the Program operates in various public schools and casts a wide net each year for art industry professionals to speak with the kids (ages 10-19) about their own artistic paths (as travel photographers, musicians, painters, fillmmakers, etc.) and to lead hands-on experiences with the students. The students have the opportunity to engage personally with various mediums and to develop their own sense of artistic entrepreneurism. Sessions spent exploring the fine arts through creative instruction, and hands-on activities have resulted in incredible student-generated paintings, magazines, poetry, short films, and more over the last 2 years.
YES (ideally both .com and .org would be available but I can deal with only having one or the other)
Education and Universities
Funders (venture capitalists, grantmakers, US governnment, Department of Education)
Kids (of all ages but currently focused on 10-19)
That this is a place where people come to learn and have access to amazing arts resources they wouldn't have otherwise.
That it is a place where people are free to be themselves and to innovate.
That we are creating the next generation of entrepreneurs.
This is a relatively uncharted field.
If you take a look at Little Black Pearl/Options Lab in Chicago - they are the only other organizations doing what I do (they trailblazed this field). I am currently partnered with them on a project, and our missions share much in common, in terms of spirit and goals.
The following is a list of names I've already explored. None of them quite hits the spot! I have been really wedded to the idea of having "wonder" in the title because curiosity is at the heart of my own trajectory. I'm a filmmaker and I'm totally motivated by a sense of wonder about the world around me. I try to infuse my students with a sense of wonder about their own stories and communities to get them interested in the arts, as well. That said - if there's another name that you think of that doesn't have wonder in it but captures the vibe of INSPIRATION, I'm totally open to it!
The Wonder Project
The Wonder Lab
The Wonder School
The Wonder House
The Wonder Paradigm
The Wonder Preservation Act
The Eighth Wonder Project
The logo for my business is ultimately going to be a little retro/a little comic book style. I'm a bit of a throwback person (think pin curls and red lipstick), so the name can't be stuffy. That's a total no-no (and why I've been turned off by things that include words like "academy" or "school"). My program is super fun, so the name needs to walk the line between being creative and being professional.
